Step 1
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Put butter in an 8x8 inch baking dish and place in the oven to melt.

Boil peaches with syrup and 2 tablespoons sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 10 minutes; set aside.

Whisk flour, 1 cup sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl. Stir in milk until mixture is just moist. Pour into the baking dish. Spoon peach slices and most of the syrup over batter.
Step 4
Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Sprinkle with remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar. Return to the oven and bake until golden brown, 30 to 45 minutes longer.
