Recipe Instructions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan.

Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 55 to 65 minutes. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing to cool completely on a wire rack.

Place orange zest in a saucepan with enough water to cover; bring to a boil and cook 5 minutes. Strain through a mesh strainer; return zest to saucepan. Discard cooking liquid. Add 1/2 cup white sugar and 1/4 cup water; return to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low. Cook, stirring constantly, until water has evaporated; cool zest until lukewarm.
Step 4
Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl; set aside. Whisk 1 cup sugar and egg together in a separate bowl. Stir in milk, butter, and cooled zest until combined; stir in flour mixture just until moistened. Pour into the prepared pan.
