Recipe Instructions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a (9x5-inch) loaf pan or 2 smaller ones with butter.
Step 2
Warm syrup, water, butter, and sugar in a medium pan over low heat until butter and sugar are just melted. Remove from heat and mix well.
Step 3
Grate apples directly into the pan. Sift flour, baking soda, ginger, and allspice over apples; stir until batter is just combined. Do not overmix. Pour batter into the prepared pan(s).
Step 4
Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center of loaf comes out clean, about 35 minutes.

  • 1.5 teaspoons ground allspice
  • 0.75 cup golden syrup
