Recipe Instructions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a 12-cup muffin pan with paper liners or grease with butter.

Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool completely.

Make cupcakes: Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl until evenly combined. Set aside.

Beat together sugar and butter in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add milk, vanilla, and orange extract slowly with the mixer on low speed until well mixed. Pour batter evenly into the prepared muffin pan.

Make frosting: Beat butter in a separate large bowl with the electric mixer on high speed. Mix in powdered sugar until incorporated. Add heavy cream , 1 tablespoon at a time. Add orange extract and vanilla; mix until smooth. Spread frosting onto cooled cupcakes.

Make glaze: Combine orange slices, orange juice, cornstarch, and powdered sugar in a small saucepan. Stir until all lumps are gone. Bring to a boil; reduce the heat and let simmer, stirring every few seconds, for about 5 minutes. Strain orange slices out of the glaze into a container. Pour a little glaze over each frosted cupcake.
