Mix boiling water with Jell-O in a large bowl; stir until dissolved. Stir in frozen strawberries and cold water. Chill until slightly thickened to consistency of egg whites. If adding lots of frozen strawberries, it may reach this stage while stirring.
Step 2
Trim crust from cake; save for another use. Cut cake into cubes, or tear into bite-sized chunks. Gently fold cake and whipped topping into strawberry mixture. Chill until set. Decorate top with any remaining strawberries and whipped topping.
