This is a traditional Melanau recipe which my father makes all the time and is a favorite amongst relatives and friends. It does not involve cooking.

Recipe Instructions

Step 1
Combine the yellow onion, red onion, ginger, chile pepper, lime zest, and lime juice in a glass or ceramic bowl. Gently stir in the red snapper, and season to taste with salt. Cover and refrigerate until the snapper turns white and opaque, about 15 minutes. Serve cold.

  • salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon grated lime zest
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 red onion, chopped
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger root
  • 1 fresh red chile pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 skinned red snapper fillets, cut into thin strips
