Recipe Instructions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
Step 2
Beat butter in a large bowl until creamy; add sugar and continue beating until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolk.
Step 3
Whisk together flour, allspice, and turmeric in a medium bowl until well combined. Sift flour mixture into butter mixture and stir until dough is combined. Press dough into a 9-inch square baking dish.
Step 4
Beat egg white in a small bowl and brush over dough.
Step 5
Bake in the preheated oven until cake feels firm when lightly pressed in the center, 30 to 45 minutes. Cut into squares while cake is still hot; cool in the baking dish.
