Recipe Instructions
Step 1
Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together in a large bowl.
Step 2
Pour batter into the prepared cake pan.
Step 3
Place a rack in the lower third of the oven. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
Step 4
Grease and flour a cake mold pan (such as a bunny cake or train cake mold). Set aside.
Step 5
Mix 1 1/3 cup milk, lemon extract, 1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla extract, and orange extract in a medium bowl.
Step 6
Beat 1 1/8 cups butter in a large bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed until butter is creamy, 1 to 2 minutes. Beat in sugar, scraping sides of the bowl occasionally, until mixture is light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
Step 7
Beat in eggs, one at a time, until well combined before adding the next.
Step 8
Reduce mixer speed to low. Beat in flour mixture in several additions, alternating with milk mixture and ending with flour mixture. Do not overbeat. Scrape down the bowl occasionally.
Step 9
Bake in the preheated oven until golden; a toothpick inserted into the middle should comes out clean, 30 to 45 minutes.
Step 10
Place cake on a rack; let cool for 15 minutes. Invert cake pan on a rack and remove; let cool completely, 3 to 4 hours.
Step 11
Beat confectioners' sugar, shortening, 2 tablespoons milk, and 1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract in a bowl until frosting is smooth and creamy.
Step 12
Pack frosting into a heavy resealable plastic bag. Clip a small corner off the bag, seal, and pipe onto cake in desired pattern.
